Cliff Lee Traded to Texas Rangers

cliff lee

The Texas Rangers were bystanders for the playoffs in the first decade of the 2000s, but they are intent on returning this season, bankruptcy court or not. That became apparent on Friday, when the Rangers traded for the All-Star left-hander Cliff Lee, who had seemed to be headed to the Yankees.
The Mariners had coveted first baseman Justin Smoak for weeks, but until Friday, the A.L. West-leading Rangers would not part with him. Seattle turned to the Yankees, and according to an official involved in the talks, the teams had all but agreed on a package of catcher Jesus Montero and infielder David Adams for Lee. The official was granted anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about internal trade talks.
When the Mariners raised concerns about Adams’s ankle injury, the Yankees agreed to include a minor league pitcher. At that point, it was up to the Mariners to agree to the trade, and the Yankees were privately optimistic. The Rangers then agreed to include Smoak, a switch-hitter with power, and the Mariners jumped at him.

“Cliff was the No. 1 guy on our board that we wanted to acquire,” Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels said at a news conference in Arlington, Tex. “There was a lot of dialogue the last few weeks. There’s been a sense of urgency all along. Cliff adds an element to our club we haven’t had in some time.”
The Mariners will also receive the minor leaguers Blake Beavan, Josh Lueke and Matt Lawson, while the Rangers will also receive reliever Mark Lowe. Chris Davis will be called up from the minors to play first base for the Rangers.
Because Lee is owed about $4 million for the rest of this season, the Rangers are believed to have received $2.5 million from Seattle. The Rangers are in bankruptcy court, and the portion of Lee’s salary they will pay had to fall within their existing budget.
“We were not in a position where we had to exceed budget, so it wasn’t an issue,” Daniels said.

Hello Cliff Lee; goodbye Justin Smoak & Blake Beavan

blake beavan
What an emotional day in my baseball world.  This morning, it looked like Cliff Lee was surely headed to New York.  I already had visions of another Yankees World Series. Commence nausea.  Then, out of nowhere, that deal fell apart, and "another team" had jumped in.  I suspected that "other team" was my team, but I was afraid to think about what they had offered to make a strong case for Lee.  My fears came true, so I have mixed (but mostly happy) feelings about the trade.
To sum up the terms -- Rangers get Cliff Lee, Mark Lowe and cash.  Seattle gets Justin Smoak, Blake Beavan, Josh Lueke and Matt Lawson.

The pros
Cliff Lee is an innings-eater and a proven winner. Heck, the guy has a Cy Young somewhere in his house, and he's one of the most coveted pitchers in MLB.  That is evident by his recent resume -- Texas is his fourth team in just two years.  I am excited to see him in a Rangers uniform, and I really do think he is the piece that could put another division championship flag up in Arlington.  Mark Lowe is also a decent arm, even though he's on the DL.  He was off to a decent start prior to his injury, appearing in 11 games in the first month and working to a 1-3 record and 3.48 ERA.  He has Texas roots too, raised in Houston and went to college at UT-Arlington.
Although it's not a popular opinion, I'm also ready to see Chris Davis in Arlington again.  Defensively, he's an upgrade from Justin Smoak.  Offensively, it's almost a wash.  I do believe this is his last chance to show he can hit major league pitching though.  If he doesn't prove himself, I see the Rangers scrambling for another 1B before September.
Also, the Rangers were able to make this trade happen without including Tanner Scheppers, Martin Perez or Derek Holland.  That's a huge sigh of relief.

The Cons
Justin Smoak has a lot of potential.  While his offensive numbers weren't inspiring, I think it's only a matter of time before he becomes an absolute beast at the plate.  He's probably the new Ranger Killer in the AL West.  That will probably sting.  Maybe even burn a little.  I wish Smoak all the best, no matter what uniform he's in.
I'm also sad to see Blake Beavan leave.  I have been following his career pretty closely (thanks to his wonderful cousin, Megan Nemec), and I was looking forward to maybe seeing him in Des Moines in a few weeks (he had recently been promoted to AAA Oklahoma City).  Alas, that won't happen. It's a good move for Blake though, as it sounds like he could be making his major league debut in the next few weeks. Again, I'll be rooting for Blake for a long time.

The Inbetween
I don't see Cliff Lee signing with the Rangers when the 2010 season is over.  He'll likely be a Yankee, which makes him a half-season rental.  This looks bad when you look at the loss of Smoak. On the other hand, if he does sign elsewhere, the Rangers will pick up some first round draft picks.

Income and Outsourcing with Microworkers

Income and Outsourcing with Microworkers

I can’t remember where I first heard about Microworkers, but I put it on my list of services to try out,
since the basic idea behind the website was intriguing to me.  The basic idea is this:  An “employer” (could be anyone like you and me – doesn’t need to be an actual employer) posts a task that needs to be completed.  “Workers” accept the task, and if the task is completed in an acceptable manner, the “worker” is paid by the “employer.”

The tasks are quick, so workers can make money very fast (sometimes under 3 minutes, even if it’s only for $1), and employers can easily outsource tasks that are helpful to their online business.
Depending on who you are and what you’re looking to do, both sides of this employer-worker relationship on Microworkers are appealing.  Let’s look into the detail about how each side works, and the benefits for engaging in each.

Joining as a “Worker”

If you’re looking to make a few quick bucks online when you’re bored, this might be one place you visit.  First, take a look at a little cartoon put out by Microworkers‘ website that explains how the role of a “worker” functions:
The “jobs” you can select from vary, but all of them are internet based, and nearly all of them can be completed within 10 minutes.  Let’s take a look at some examples that are currently on the Microworkers.  When I log in, the site tells me that there are 198 jobs available to me – they range from paying $.10 to $2.20.  At first glace, it looks like you’d be a part of sweatshop-caliber labor.  If you actually look at what the tasks are, it’s not so bad.  Here are a couple of the top ones:
1) Online College Info Request – Short Form – $2.20: Estimated time to complete: 3 minutes.
If I look at the details on this job, the task is to go to a website, click on a banner, fill out a short form (I’d assume you would not use your primary email address), and then copy the URL of the page after you submit (so you can prove you completed the task).  Assuming this does take only 3 minutes, you’ve essentially earned an hourly wage of $44 ($2.20 x 60/3).  Unfortunately, you can only do this task one time.
2) Dish Network Quote Request -$1.55: Estimated time to complete: 1 minute.
Similar to the first task, you simply need to fill out a form. I don’t think any of these ask for sensitive information like your SSN or credit card number, so you should be safe.  Again, it’s a small amount of money, but it doesn’t demand a lot of your time.
Just for fun, let’s see how much you would make if you did every task that paid above a certain amount, what your hourly rate would be:
All tasks paying $.50 or more: $53.99 for 284 minutes ($11.41 per hour)
All tasks paying $.75 or more: $42.09 for 191 minutes ($13.22 per hour)
All tasks paying $1.00 or more: $30.65 for 89 minutes ($20.66 per hour)
All tasks paying $1.50 or more: $22.04 for 58 minutes ($22.80 per hour)
All tasks paying $1.75 or more: $11.47 for 27 minutes ($25.49 per hour)
All tasks paying $.50 or more, with the more time consuming tasks removed: $33.83 for 99 minutes ($22.32 per hour)
As you can see, your hourly rate completely depends on how selective you are.  While it does seem like there aren’t many “jobs” available, you have to keep in mind that this is what’s on the site right now.  This site is fairly new, but there are jobs being posted all the time, so there are always new tasks to complete if you so desire.  As for getting paid, I’ll copy this straight from the website:
I’m a Microworkers… How and when do I get paid?
Workers get paid when their Employer rates the task submitted as “satisfied”. When a Worker logs into their account, they can check the status of various tasks they have submitted. If a task is marked “not satisfied” by the Employer, you (the Microworker) will not get paid. If a task is marked “satisfied” you will get paid. Workers can withdraw earned money through several different methods: PayPal, Check, Moneybookers, etc.  After you have requested a payout, it takes up to 30 business days to process your payment.
Personally, I will probably be more on the employer side of things (which I will explain further below), but I think this is a legitimate way to make a few extra bucks if you are bored.  And as you can see, if you’re selective with the jobs, you can earn a decent hourly rate.  We’re all at different places in our lives (some of us our millionaires while others of us are unemployed), so I have to think that this has value to someone.  Also, they are currently offering a $1.00 sign up bonus to all new workers.

Joining as an “Employer”

Joining Microworkers as an employer is where you can really get a taste for outsourcing work.  If a virtual assistant is too expensive or elaborate for your needs, you can use Microworkers to get a feel for delegating certain basic tasks to other people.  Let’s have a look at the Employer cartoon from Microworkers‘ website:
Employer Cartoon
If you take a look at the current available jobs, you’ll notice one thing many of them have in common: they relate to online business/website promotion.  This is precisely what I will be using Microworkers for.
When you have a new online business or muse, it’s difficult gaining traction early on.  One popular means of promotion is through social networking, with sites such as Twitter or Facebook.  Social networking is a lot like starting a fire – once you get it going, it spreads and flourishes provided there is something to burn.  The problem is, starting it can be a major roadblock for many new internet entrepreneurs.
Think about it:  You start a Facebook “fan page” for your muse, like many online (and offline) businesses do.  Someone sees your Facebook link, clicks on it, and lands on the fan page to find no fans.  How quickly will you want to become a fan of something that has no fans?  You might still click to become a fan anyway, but I have no doubt that having no fans or a very low number of fans is a deterrent to potential fans.
Now, to tie it back to Microworkers.  Here’s a way for you to inexpensively get your social networking “fire” burning.  For as low a 30 cents a person, you can pay someone to become a fan of yours.  Yes, this sounds lame.  It sounds like you’re paying for friends.  Really, you’re spending a little bit of money to get past one of the many roadblocks to starting a successful online venture.
Here are some other tasks you can outsource on Microworkers, to help grow your business:
1) Twitter followers - in addition to paying someone to follow you, you can require that they “tweet” about your website, so that their followers will also become aware of your business.
2) Blog reviews – You can pay someone to write a short review of your business, on their blog or website.  Again, it’s another quick and cheap way to get exposure.  You can require that their blog/website meets a certain page rank requirement (“PR”), to ensure that your review is actually being posted on a legitimate site that receives real traffic.  (What’s a “page rank” and how can I check it?)
3) Search engine ranking – This goes along with #2 above.  By having someone write about your site and link to it, search engines like Google will like your website more and rank it higher in search results.  This is a topic for its own post, but the number of sites that link to your website is one of the determining factors for how high you rank in search engine results.
4) Comments on your blog – To help increase the perception that your blog is popular and legitimate (which WILL cause people to read it more often – people like knowing that they are reading a blog that others enjoy), you can pay the “workers” to leave comments on your blog, and specify how long the comments should be.
5) View and rate your YouTube videos – If you’re someone who posts videos on YouTube and need help getting your video noticed and rated, you can pay “workers” to help you out.
There’s a lot more you can do if you use your imagination.  Anything that can be boiled down to one simple task that takes less than 10 minutes and can be explained in a few simple steps can be outsourced on Microworkers.  I plan on making Microworkers one of my basic tools that I’ll use to get any of my muses off the ground.
Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about Microworkers, or comment on any experiences you’ve had with them.

Fathead

fatheadIt was not long for the Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert to try to make some money out of the game of LeBron James from Cleveland to Miami
The heat, even if only $ 17.41.

Fathead, a company owned by Gilbert that makes life-size vinyl wall graphics of professional athletes and cartoon characters, has put all its remaining Fatheads imagining King James in a Cleveland Cavaliers uniform for sale. That’s not surprising. What is surprising is that the company has priced the stickers giant $ 17.41. Fatheads normally retail between $ 50 and $ 100.
Fathead Gilbert and his partners bought in 2006.
What is the meaning of $ 17.41? One of the most notorious traitor in American history, Benedict Arnold, was born in 1741. Arnold was a general in the Continental Army during the American Revolution, but joined the British Army in 1780.
LeBron, after seven years playing for the team, announced on live television Thursday night that was for
The heat, to form a “dream team” with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. This provoked reactions of anger and disappointment in Cleveland, probably rivaled their colonial counterparts.
Gilbert, who infuriated James ran to South Beach in the middle of the night without giving an explanation, led to the Internet to vent their frustrations.
In a letter published on the official website of the Cavaliers, Gilbert former star broke away, calling it “narcissistic” and “coward”, while James’ trademark action during free agency as a display of “shameful selfishness and betrayal. ”
“I personally guarantee that the Cleveland Cavaliers to win an NBA championship before self-old title” King “win one,” said Gilbert.

It’s Official: LeBron James Announces Plans to Join Miami Heat

lebron james heat jersey

All Cavalier fan hopes of a smokescreen leading up to “The Decision” were dashed away in a matter of seconds as LeBron James has announced his intentions to join the Miami Heat on ESPN’s nationally televised broadcast.
“This fall, I’m going to take my talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat,” said James.  ”I feel like I can win championships down there.  I’m looking forward to it.”
There were thoughts circulating that a lot of the rumor and speculation leading up to the Thursday night announcement could be simply to keep the NBA world on their collective toes.  Would James go on national television to slap the city of Cleveland in the face? Would his team leak information that would ultimately take the wind out of the suspense-filled sales?  All fair questions that have now been answered with a resounding “yes.”
“The major factor and the major reason for my decision was for me to win.  To win now and to win in the future,” said James.
Fellow free agents Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade announced their intentions to play in Miami for the foreseeable future.  James’ addition to this tandem would seemingly provide the Miami Heat with one of the most star-studded rosters in the history of the league.  James feels his decision to join the Heat will provide him with his first ring since joining the NBA in 2003.
“I put myself in a position to have this process where I can hear teams pitches and figure the best possible position for me to win and ultimately be happy,” said James.
“The thing that the Miami Heat franchise has done to be clear up cap space, it was hard to turn down.”
As a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron James averaged 27.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists.  Led by James, the Cavs have been a part of four consecutive NBA postseasons, one of which ended at the NBA Finals.  Unfortunately for Cleveland, the last two seasons have ended in what is unaimously considered to be a disappointment.
“I decided this morning,” said James.  “I went day to day – it was a process that I felt was going to happen.  This morning, I woke up and had a great conversation with my mom and once I had that conversation with her I was set.”
Cleveland was said to be James’ favored destination given their ability to provide more money for a longer period of time, but he feared being “31-years old with bad knees and without a title.”
To Cleveland, James said that the decision was “heartfelt” and hard for him to make.
“I never wanted to leave Cleveland,” said James.  ”My heart will always be around that area, but the greatest challenge for me was to move on.”

Why Twitter And Your Blog Go Together Like Rama Lama Lama Ka Dinga Da Dinga Dong

sandra dee

You know that part at the end of the classic movie musical Grease, where Sandy and Danny finally realize they are really made for each other?  And then Sandy really goes for it and sheds her “Sandra Dee” image once and for all?
I’ve been thinking about that movie a lot lately (probably because of the upcoming re-release of the movie today  in a very cool  “sing-a-long” format), and how Sandy and Danny are like Twitter and my blog.
Like Sandy & Danny, Twitter “met” my blog two years ago – there was certainly an attraction, but it was a brief one.  And they went their separate ways.
But wouldn’t you know it, just as  Sandy re-entered Danny’s life at Rydell High, Twitter came back again, and similar to  Danny, my blog found Twitter very hard to understand.  “How can you possibly communicate in 140 characters?  Heck, my posts are usually 500 words!”
And yet, there was still clearly an attraction.  But it was tinged with jealousy, and confusion.  So once again tracing the story of Sandy & Danny, Twitter and my blog tried to flirt with other platforms, like Facebook and LinkedIn, and even (gasp!) Plurk.
The connection could not be made – what was going to turn the tide?  Or were these star-crossed platforms destined to live forever apart?
Finally, Twitter saw the light – and at just the right time.   “I shouldn’t be meekly competing against the blog – I should be complementing it.  Supporting it.  Screaming on the rooftops for it!”
No more Sandra Dee for Twitter.   So it put on a new, sassy set of clothes, and like Sandy went to Danny lookin’ a whole lot different.
And boy, did the blog like that!  Twitter was aggressively promoting the blog’s posts,  and the blog started to get more traffic.  Lots more.  And Danny, I mean the blog, finally boldly exclaimed  “You’re the one that I want (ooh, ooh, ooh)!
All was well with the world – Twitter and my blog were now joined forever.   In fact, the blog even allowed Twitter to put its stream on its page, right next to the posts!  (If that’s not togetherness, I don’t know what is).
It was clear that the blog couldn’t possibly thrive without Twitter putting on Sandy’s leather pants and singing its praises.  Fearlessly, and repeatedly.   In today’s social media world, one could not exist without the other.
And so, like Grease, there’s a very happy ending here, with throngs of extras parading around the carnival grounds, exclaiming that Twitter and my blog go together “like rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong
I have no idea what that means, but it sure sounds right.
As Sandy & Danny’s car drifts up into the sky and the credits roll,  I think of Twitter and my blog on a similar trajectory, flying blissfully as the Blog turns to Twitter and says,
“You complete me!”
Wait a minute, that’s a different movie….. aw, heck, let’s go for it.

According to Mark Saxon of ESPNLosAngeles.com, the Angels were warned by MLB last week about the possibility of riots in Oakland this weekend if a verdict comes down in the case of an officer who is on trial for shooting an unarmed man on a train platform.
The case, which involves a white officer and a black victim, has sparked racial tensions in the East Bay, so the trial was moved to Los Angeles. Jury deliberations resumed Thursday.
MLB security phoned Angels traveling secretary Tom Taylor to explain the situation and offer the team extra security. The Angels, who are scheduled to arrive in the Bay Area late Thursday night for a weekend series in Oakland, are staying in a San Francisco hotel and will bus to Oakland Coliseum.
Johannes Mehserle, a former Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer, is charged with murder for allegedly shooting Oscar Grant III at Oakland’s Fruitvale BART station Jan. 1, 2009.
Grant, 22, was shot while Mehserle and another officer were trying to handcuff Grant.
And the Angels thought that trying to catch the Rangers in the AL West was stressful.

BREAKING: Officer Convicted Of Involuntary Manslaughter In Oscar Grant Shooting

involuntary manslaughter

A former transit police officer who fatally shot an unarmed man at an Oakland train station was convicted of involuntary manslaughter Thursday, capping a racially charged case that raised fears in the Bay Area of possible violence after the verdict.
Prosecutors accused the ex-officer of intentionally firing his handgun as he tried to handcuff Oscar J. Grant III on New Year’s Day 2009. Johannes Mehserle, 28, tearfully testified that the shooting was a tragic accident caused when he mistakenly grabbed his firearm instead of an electric Taser weapon during a struggle with Grant.

The shooting was captured on video by several witnesses. Mehserle, who is white, fired a single round into the back of Grant, who was black and was lying face-down on the station platform. Mehserle resigned a week after the shooting.

Leicester Bryce Stovell: I'm LeBron James' Dad!

Forget rumors of Delonte West nailing his mom this spring. LeBron James is now being sued a dude who claims he slept with Gloria James, oh, say about 25 years ago.
LeBron, whose HUGE decision about where he will play next season coincidentally airs tonight on ESPN, is accused of tampering with evidence, as is Gloria.
Leicester Bryce Stovell, 55, claims in his lawsuit that he is the biological father of James and alleges that the NBA star and his mom covered up this fact.
He says he met Gloria in a D.C. area bar in 1984, had unprotected sex with her the night they met, and later found out she was 15 at the time. He was 29.
Interestingly, the guy isn't your stereotypical deadbeat dad.

Rather, he's a Princeton and University of Chicago Law School grad who went on to be a senior legal adviser to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
In any case, Stovell claims Gloria went back to her hometown in Ohio after they hooked up, but returned several months later to inform him that she was pregnant with a boy named LeBron, although she never specifically identified the father.
Stovell claims he reconnected with Gloria by phone in 2007, when he began to think he could be LeBron's dad, partly because they look almost identical. Leicester notes that when he saw LeBron play, he was "struck by our similarity in appearance.
Leicester Bryce Stovell claims during the 2007 call, Gloria James threatened to have him physically harmed and told him, "LeBron's money is for his children."
A few days after the phone call, Leicester claims LeBron James - through his attorney - agreed to take a DNA paternity test. Stovel claims he was given results that showed he was not LeBron's dad ... but suspects Gloria and LeBron are behind a fraud.
Why would he do that?
"Anger at perceived abandonment and conflict arising from his image as a successful fatherless child from the projects," Leicester Bryce Stovell theorizes.
He claims Gloria "fabricated" a story about LeBron's real father for the "one dimensional commercial image-making purpose ... to make [LeBron's] life suggestive of Spike Lee's popular 1998 sports drama film, He Got Game."
Biographical information on James says his biological father, Anthony McClelland, was an ex-con who abandoned Gloria to be a single mom at age 16.
Leicester, who notes that LeBron named his son Bryce, is seeking $4 million from LeBron and Gloria, claiming fraud, defamation and misrepresentation.
Wow. Most of the time said claims involve the millionaire athlete fathering a kid (cough, Tiger Woods), not vice versa. Is there any chance this is true?
James' camp has denounced the suit as a blatant attempt to capitalize on the attention LeBron will receive in the run-up to his announcement tonight.

Emmy Nominations 2010: 'Glee' Keeps on Rolling

emmy nominations

Emmy nominations for the 62nd Annual Prime Time Emmy Awards were announced earlier this morningand by the looks of things, this year's presenters at the August 29 ceremony better start warming up their vocal chords, because there's going to be a lot of singing going on.

That's because Fox's pop juggernaut 'Glee' continued its rampage through the cultural landscape by racking up an impressive 19 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy, Lead Actor in a Comedy (Matthew Morrison) and Lead Actress in a Comedy (Lea Michele).

About the only person to have a better day than the cast of 'Glee' was Betty White, who continued her amazing career high with a nod for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series as host of 'Saturday Night Live,' her 20th Emmy nomination.
Of course, 'Glee's' path to victory won't be an easy one, as perennial powerhouses '30 Rock' and 'The Office' both also received nominations in all three categories.

And the drama is hardly limited to comedy: outgoing cult smash 'Lost' landed several nominations, including Outstanding Drama, while HBO's groundbreaking mini-series 'The Pacific' topped all nominees with 24 nods -- yet none in any of the acting categories.

In the major categories, Outstanding Drama looks to be among the most competitive, with 'Lost' going head-to-head with fellow cult hit 'True Blood' in a field that also includes 'Breaking Bad,' 'Dexter,' 'Mad Men' and newcomer 'The Good Wife.'

Meanwhile, Outstanding Comedy is also shaping up to be a dogfight, with '30 Rock' and 'The Office' each earning its fourth consecutive nod. Additional contenders for Outstanding Comedy are 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' with its sixth nod, Showtime's offbeat dramedy 'Nurse Jackie,' breakout newcomer 'Modern Family' and, of course, fan favorite sensation 'Glee.'

In the Lead Actor in a Drama category, perennial favorite Hugh Laurie received another nomination for his eponymous role on 'House,' while Matthew Fox ('Lost') landed his first for the role of doomed would-be savior Jack Shepard; Michael C. Hall ('Dexter'), Kyle Chandler ('Friday Night Lights'), Bryan Cranston ('Breaking Bad') and Jon Hamm ('Mad Men') also received nods.

Lead Actor in a Comedy looks to be a wide open field, as the nominees include perennial favorites Alec Baldwin ('30 Rock') and Steve Carell ('The Office') as well as Jim Parsons ('The Big Bang Theory'), Larry David ('Curb Your Enthusiasm'), Matt Morrison ('Glee') and Tony Shalhoub (the late, lamented 'Monk').

Lead Actress in a Drama is headed by Mariska Hargitay ('Law & Order: SVU') and Glenn Close ('Damages'), with Kyra Sedgwick ('The Closer'), Julianna Margulies ('The Good Wife'), Connie Britton ('Friday Night Lights') and January Jones ('Mad Men') also receiving nominations.

Meanwhile in the Lead Actress in a Comedy category, Lea Michele ('Glee'), Julia Louis-Dreyfus ('The New Adventures of Old Christine') and Tina Fey ('30 Rock') all received nods, as did Edie Falco ('Nurse Jackie'), Toni Collette ('The United States of Tara') and Amy Poehler ('Parks and Recreation').

LeBron in a New York state of mind?

More than 2 years of hype, drama, conjecture and expectation have dwindled to a few more hours.
LeBron James' big moment is here - not as an NBA champion but as a free agent. There will be no parade, no ring ceremony, no banner-raising.
Instead, on a prime-time, made-for-TV special his handlers contracted with ESPN, James will announce tonight where he'll play next season and beyond.
James may have tipped his hand according to the New York Post, which reported that he was seen checking out townhouses in Manhattan's West Village, including one previously owned by singer Billy Joel.
That 4,000-square-foot home, which has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, an elevator, and an indoor pool, is listed at $12.95 million.
James gave no indication yesterday as to where he will play next year. Everyone, including fellow NBA players, will have to tune in tonight to find out his decision.
"I'll be watching," said fellow free-agent superstar Dwyane Wade, who agreed to re-sign with Miami yesterday and may be trying to recruit James. "We've scheduled it. I'll make sure I'm in front of the TV tomorrow at 9 to watch, like everyone else."
Norby Williamson, ESPN's vice president of production, said James will announce his plans within the first 10 minutes of the special. Williamson said sportscaster Jim Gray, who was handpicked by James' team, will handle the introduction, announcement and initial questions. A person familiar with the plans said the interview will take place at the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich, Conn.
James offered no hints about his plans on his final, full day of free agency. His secret remains safe, despite an information frenzy and growing speculation the 25-year-old superstar might join Olympic teammates Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, a move that would rock the league.
That's exactly what new Cavs coach Byron Scott doesn't want. He showed up unannounced at James' summer camp at the University of Akron and spent an hour watching the two-time MVP and Cleveland players Jamario Moon, Danny Green, Christian Eyenga and assistant coach Chris Jent scrimmage.
Scott, who was part of the Cavs' presentation team that wooed James last week at the megastar's business office in downtown Cleveland, said he did not speak with James but was keeping his fingers and toes crossed that James' loyalty to his home state will sway his decision.
"I'm always hopeful," Scott said.
The Cavaliers, Heat, Knicks, Bulls and Nets all have made their pitches. They get their answer tonight.

Justin Bieber Hates Koreans: Another Rumor to Hit the Teen Singer

justin bieber hates koreans
Rumors seems to be an inseparable part of Justin Bieber’s life. The teen pop star is once again hit by malicious rumor. This time the 17 year old Bieber is rumored as hating the Koreans.
Today the web is abuzz with the news that Justin Bieber Hates Koreans. The rumor started spreading as a prankster revealed that North Korea is looking forward to Bieber’s tour there. Although there is no statement related to racial offense from Bieber, the rumor is spreading like a wildfire.
As you know, previously the young singing talent had faced rumors of contracting syphillis, racial slurs and a series of death reports.
Bieber is an innocent guy and he loves his fans truly. It seems such rumors are made out of envy and only to defame the budding star.

Carlos Boozer

Boozer's value rises with Bulls

carlos boozer
Carlos Boozer should solidify the Bulls' frontcourt, and he still gets to play with a star point guard in Derrick Rose.

For a few years now, it has been extremely clear that the Chicago Bulls, for all their talent, lacked a scorer in the post. Signing Carlos Boozer away from the Utah Jazz for a reported $80 million over five years appears to have remedied that problem, even if the roster as a whole might not be a finished product.

Boozer has a few definable skills in the fantasy game. He generally is good for 20 points per game and has been a double-digit rebounder in each of the past four seasons. Only once in his career has he failed to shoot well over 50 percent from the floor. He has great hands and consistently racks up more than one steal per game. Without question, when healthy, Boozer is a fantastic fantasy player, and that shouldn't change with the Bulls, where his scoring from the power forward position corrects perhaps the biggest flaw in Chicago's roster. Considering the Bulls likely will lose Brad Miller, there will be plenty of minutes for Boozer, too -- more, it seems, than the 34 or so per game he's been playing for the Jazz the past few seasons. If anything, Boozer's stock should be a little higher next season, as long as he's able to remain reasonably healthy.
Paul Millsap should slide into Carlos Boozer's spot in Utah and be a major contributor next season.

For the rest of the Bulls, based on what we know as of right now, this has to be seen as a major victory. Boozer's ability to score outside of the paint on jump shots should help open up things for Derrick Rose's superstar-level penetration. I would expect to see Rose have to take fewer bad shots, which should mean more assists (say seven or eight per game instead of six) and a better field goal percentage (up from his already-stellar 49 percent clip last season). Boozer's presence might cost Joakim Noah a rebound or two, but Boozer's ability to score should mesh pretty well with Noah's skills as a passer, and Noah already has proved he's one the league's best rebounders, no matter who is playing alongside him.
I don't see major changes coming statistically for the other Bulls; Boozer's scoring might mean slightly fewer chances for Luol Deng, for example, but the chances Deng does get should be better ones. As any basketball watcher is aware, having a player who can score consistently close to the basket tends to open up things, and Boozer has been a cog in one of the league's most efficient offenses for years now.
That said, Taj Gibson is the Bulls player with the most to lose. After playing nearly 27 minutes per game as a rookie, he'll now be relegated to bench duty, and unless Boozer gets hurt, it's hard to imagine Gibson's playing the same amount of minutes this time around. Gibson is, however, a pretty good shot-blocker, so he deserves to be on your radar as long as he posts 20 or more minutes per contest.

For the Jazz, clearly, this has to be seen as the big chance for Paul Millsap. He already has been an important fantasy player as Boozer's backup; if his minutes get bumped up from 28 to, say, 36 or so, we could be talking about a top-25 player, given his ability to block shots (1.2 per game last season), get steals (0.8 per game last season) and shoot a high percentage (54 percent for last season). I'd be perfectly happy to spend a fourth-round pick on Millsap in most fantasy drafts.
Obviously, losing a player with Boozer's ability on the offensive end and on the glass hurts a team a lot, but with Millsap as a ready-made replacement, it's possible there might not be too much upheaval. One player to look closely at is Andrei Kirilenko. Never a good bet to stay healthy, Kirilenko tends to be extremely productive in fantasy when he's actually playing, and given the current roster situation for the Jazz, Kirilenko will be an important piece going forward. In fantasy drafts, he is a major risk/reward type of player, but he's one of the few guys around with a top-20 ceiling if everything breaks right.
Losing Boozer isn't great for Deron Williams, but Williams has been the best player on the Jazz for a few seasons now, and I'm not too worried about the fantasy potential of a guy who is, at worst, one of the three best point guards in the world.
For the rest of the Jazz, things probably don't change that much. If there are minimal future roster changes, the Jazz will make up for Boozer's scoring among Millsap, Mehmet Okur, Wesley Matthews and C.J. Miles, but for now, none of their overall fantasy profiles should change much, if at all, save Millsap. The Jazz will continue to play the same style as before, and the only major gainer should be the obvious one: Millsap.

Jared Dudley on Twitter: LeBron James to NY Knicks

lebron james knicks

Phoenix Suns Forward Jared Dudley got on Twitter to announce that LeBron James would elect to go to the NY Knicks! That's right. The Chosen One, called "King James" by some and "Queen James" by others is reportedly set to become a New York Knicks player. Here's Jared Dudley on Twitter:
Breaking News!!! My sources tell me Lebron will announce that he will be goin to the NY KNICKS tomorrow on ESPN.. This is serious.. WOW!!!! about 4 hours ago via Echofon
Then Jared followed that up with this tweet:
That's what I'm hearing.. I don't care where he goes lol.. I personally thought he would stay in Cleveland.. about 4 hours ago via Echofon
That LeBron would pick the Knicks over his current team the Cleveland Cavaliers comes as no surprise since the NY Knicks added Amare Stoudemire Monday. Stoudemire, who signed a five-year, $100 million deal, is a now-former teammate with Jared Dudley and may have been his source for the LeBron to New York news.
But the Knicks having Amare Stoudemire would seem to cancel the need for LeBron. Indeed, according to ESPN, James' representatives were seeking "clarity" on what the Knicks intended to do just before they signed Amare. Last Thursday, the Knicks told LeBron James he could pick the big man he wanted to team with should he come to New York; one of those players was LeBron James.

Have pro athletes scooped LeBron's Thursday night ESPN press conference?
NESN (and others) today pointed out Twitter messages from the NBA's Jared Dudley and NFL's Chad Ochocinco saying that LeBron James will sign with the New York Knicks, as Forbes' Mike Ozanian predicted in May.
Jared Dudley:
"Breaking News!!! My sources tell me Lebron will announce that he will be goin to the NY KNICKS tomorrow on ESPN.. This is serious.. WOW!!!!"
Chad OchoCinco:
*Empire State of Mind* *wink* *wink*only the smart folk will put this together and figure out what i am talking about #6
This afternoon The Post reported that LeBron's Thursday night press conference will be held in Greenwich Conn., which again points to the Knicks--maybe even the Nets.
Last week Forbes released an exclusive Knicks' study showing that LeBron would likely make $1 billion playing in New York. Latest rumors suggest the Knicks' PowerPoint presentation might have proved very convincing.

Bob Moffat Will Drown The Next Person Who Tries To Suggest His Relationship With Danielle Chiesi Was Just About Sex

danielle chiesi

Drown them in his tears, that is. (For those of you keeping up at home the answer is yes, this is the second time on record the former IBM exec has cried in public re: Chiesi, the fishnet-wearing analyst he traded all kinds of tips with if you’re picking up what I’m throwing down and I think you are.)
In an interview with Fortune, Moffat came across as emotional, repentant, and chastened. He wept describing the embarrassment he’d brought upon IBM, his colleagues, and family. While he showed little self-pity, he rebuffed the notion that he hadn’t paid a price for his crimes, noting that by leaving IBM he was giving up an estimated $65 million in lost stock options and pension that he would have collected when he retired at 60. “The biggest thing I’ve lost,” he said, “is my reputation.” Moffat was not allowed by his lawyer to discuss his case or his relationship with Chiesi, but when told that Fortune intended to write about the affair, he said this: “Everyone wants to make this about sex. Danielle had an extensive network of business people. And she added clarity about what was going on in the business world…I know in my heart what this relationship was about: clarity in the business environment.”
Oh, god, and there’s also this:
“Moffat was a number cruncher of the first order: He had been, among other things, the head of IBM’s supply chain. Spreadsheets sang to him; he carried three-ring binders stuffed with data about the business. Some people might think his work was dull. But in 2002 he met a hedge fund analyst who found what he did insanely alluring. Danielle Chiesi, a former teenage beauty queen, was a woman for whom business information was the ticket to gratification. She liked older men, and she enjoyed pushing their buttons. “I love the three S’s,” she would tell them. “Sex, stocks, and sports.”
Sex was part of the picture, to be sure, but the dangerous elixir that really bound these people to one another was information. It enriched some of them, it thrilled all of them, and it eventually ruined their careers. Trading business information, Chiesi would say, was “like an orgasm.”

Looking Back Over Ringo Starr's Life as He Turns 70

ringo starr

Ringo will celebrate his 70th with a private party at NY's Hard Rock Cafe and he has been asking fans to hold up V signs and chant 'peace and love' at noon on his birthday every year since 2008.

It was 70 years ago - today that Ringo Starr was born. After fighting a series of childhood illnesses, the young Richard Starkey became an in-demand drummer in his native Liverpool and he replaced Pete Best in the group that was to become the most famous band in the world, The Beatles.

Now, as Starr turns 70, we thought we'd take a look back over his life and dig up some of the facts you might not know about the old rocker. Happy Birthday Ringo!

  • Ringo will celebrate his 70th with a private party at New York's Hard Rock Cafe and then perform with his All Starr Band at Radio City Music Hall in the evening.
  • Ringo has been asking fans to hold up V signs and chant 'peace and love' at noon on his birthday every year since 2008.
  • Ringo wasn't a fan of India when The Beatles went there to study meditation in 1968. He didn't like the food and returned to the U.K. after just 10 days, telling friends the experience was just like British holiday camp Butlins.
  • Ringo came up with the title for the first The Beatles movie, "A Hard Day's Night", after a lengthy recording session. Filmmaker Walter Shenson jumped on the phrase as the title for the movie and commissioned John Lennon and Paul McCartney to write a song matching the title, according to leading Beatles historian Martin Lewis.
  • John Lennon once joked that Ringo "isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles!" but his three bandmates all used him to play drums on their solo albums.
  • Ringo never fell out with any of his bandmates. While they were feuding with each other, Starr remained neutral and kept in touch with each of them.
  • Ringo is left-handed but plays a right-handed drum kit.
  • Ringo wrote novelty tune "Octopus' Garden" while holidaying with Peter Sellers on the funnyman's yacht. Starr had walked out on The Beatles, disgusted with the band's tensions and bored with waiting around to contribute to the "White Album".
  • Ringo is the only Beatle to have failed to top the U.K. singles and album chart as a solo artist. He has had two number one tunes in the U.S.
  • In 1971, Ringo started a furniture company with designer Robin Cruikshank. Starr's contributions included a doughnut-shaped fireplace.
  • In 1975, Ringo founded his own record label, Ring O'Records.
  • Ringo was inducted into the Percussive Hall of Fame in 2002, alongside Ella Fitzgerald's drummer Ed Thigpen, who died earlier this year.
  • Ringo was the voice of kids show "Thomas the Tank Engine" in the U.K. in the mid-1980s on the ITV Network in the U.K. He was also the original little conductor on "Shining Time Station" in the U.S.
  • Ringo shares his birthday with designer Pierre Cardin.
  • Ringo is the oldest Beatle. He is three months older than John Lennon.
  • At 15, Ringo could barely read or write because he had spent so much time in hospital as a child - he fell into a two-month coma after complications from appendicitis at the age of six and he developed pleurisy when he was 13.
  • Ringo made an animated appearance as himself on "The Simpsons" episode "Brush with Greatness".
  • Ringo was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1965, alongside his Beatles bandmates. He also shared the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Let It Be". Each Beatle received an Oscar statuette.
  • The minor planet 4150 Starr, discovered on 31 August 1984 by Brian A. Skiff at the Anderson Mesa Station of the Lowell Observatory, was named in Ringo's honor.
  • On February 8, 2010, Ringo was honored with the 2,401st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Justin Bieber Hates North Korea And The Koreans

justin bieber hates korea
Justin Bieber apparently hates North Korea and the Koreans if we are to believe the current but helas, manipulated rumor spreading around. Well, putting our disgust for this idiot away, we confirm that Justin Bieber does NOT hate the Koreans and North Korea.

Justin Bieber Hates North Korea And The Koreans
The whole funny but somehow pitiful story started when the young apparently-multi talented pop star opened an online poll to ask his fans to vote for the location of his next tour and concert. According to Justin Bieberians (the wise often call them noobs!), the later is really sweet and love his fans.

In fact, the poll was manipulated and as usual, 4chan is being labelled as the potential prankster behind the manipulation of Justin Bieber tour poll. North Korea was at around the 24th position but suddenly the votes increased at an alarming rate which made North Korea as the most voted country for Justin Bieber next tour.
Now, we all know that Justin Bieber or even any other star will never go on tour to North Korea. Huh, we know why! As a result, since the last few hours, rumors that Justin Bieber dislikes the North Koreans have started to spread across the net. Well, Justin…whatever is in himself a….so whatever! With all the previous rumors about him (contracted syphillis), this new rumor is not so surprising.
Anyway sometime we ask ourselves if this guy is actually famous by having more people disliking him rather than having real fans!

Syfy's 'Warehouse 13' back for a second season with more supernatural hijinks

hg wells

It will come as no major surprise to fans of "Warehouse 13" that Artie Nielsen (Saul Rubinek) somehow survived the seemingly lethal blast that enveloped him in the final moments of season one.
Happily for Artie, this is season two, and this is "Warehouse 13." Here, weird is routine, and best of all, Artie's return is the starting gun for a series of strange developments that will leave viewers wondering exactly what's going on.
That's the point here, that viewers should spend much of the show wondering. Because when things are working, that's what the characters are doing, too.
For those who just arrived, Warehouse 13 is a super-secret facility where the government stores historical artifacts too dangerous to be accessible to the public.
Since these artifacts have vast power, there's always someone who would like to liberate one.
Last year that included the evil McPherson (Roger Rees), who gave the show its finest bad guy and almost managed to throw the blame on one of Artie's assistants, the strange but endearing Claudia (Allison Scagliotti).
Claudia plays the off-center computer genius found in virtually every sci-fi show these days, and her arrival kicked the show up a notch last season.
Still, the action mostly revolves around detectives Pete (Eddie McClintock) and Myka (Joanne Kelly), who got shanghaied into being Artie's A-team, resisted fiercely and then decided they really liked it.
This is the part of the show that's not weird at all. In fact, it's the setup for half of the cop shows on television. Pete and Myka are a male-female detective team solving odd cases through their different skill sets, while also trying not to acknowledge their growing romantic tension.
While they work this well-worn territory nicely, they also need Artie and an imaginative set of adversaries to keep the show lively.
Tonight, for instance, they find themselves dueling with H.G. Wells, many of whose outlandish science fiction imaginings subsequently came true.
They're not up against a runaway time machine here, though. They're up against what seems to be the actual H.G., who turns out to be nothing like even readers of H.G. Wells books imagined.
Meantime, Artie apparently is unchastened by his near-incineration experience, remaining as over-the-top as ever.
McPherson is still on the loose, too, so everyone needs to find him before he can carry out his various nefarious agendas.
To be as much fun as it strives to be, "Warehouse 13" can't be just a cop show with a gimmick. It needs to make the gimmick interesting and fun. Season one was promising and season two seems to be staying on track.

Lindsay Lohan Jail Sentence: Details and LiLo's courtroom tears (VIDEO)

lindsay lohan jail
Lindsay Lohan is going to jail! Lohan, 24, was sentenced to 90 days in jail Tuesday by Judge Marsha Revel for what the court considered violations in the terms of her probation. As the Lindsay Lohan jail sentence was read, LiLo broke down in tears and looked shocked by the sentence.
Lindsay Lohan Jail Sentence Video and Music Video for 'First' Equally Painful and Sad To Watch - Both Linked Right Here, of Course!

The Lindsay Lohan jail sentence was handed down after Lindsay reportedly missed multiple drug and alcohol treatment program meetings since her last court appearance. LiLo insists she missed them only due to work, and made them up by going to alternate meetings that she thought would count. Lohan addressed the judge, saying, "I don't want you to think I don't respect you. I did my best."

Lohan was very emotional as her jail sentence was read. It is likely Lindsay Lohan will only serve 20-30 days in jail; she must turn herself in on July 20. Here, find video of the Lindsay Lohan jail sentence being read, and her reaction!
For even more disturbing Lindsay Lohan news: this music video done by Lindsay in 2008 is still on YouTube, threatening to turn impressionable kids off real music for the rest of their lives without apology. That, folks, is the real tragedy here. If putting Lindsay Lohan in jail is the only way to make sure she doesn't ever sing or put out another music video again, well...it may be for the best.
