Earthquake Gives Northeast a Midday Shake

An earthquake in Canada was felt across upstate New York this afternoon, shaking buildings and causing calls to emergency services.

Despite clocking in at a magnitude of 5, there have been no reports of any injuries. The half-minute long quake was centered just north of Ottawa, Canada.

In Rochester, callers to WXXI's 1370 Connection also reported feeling the tremor, as it shook china and furniture. One caller said it reminded him of the routine quakes that strike the northern California periodically.

The US Geological Survey indicates that communities as far west as Columbus, Ohio reported feeling a brief tremor as a result of the quake
