Sookie (Anna Paquin) is the leading lady of "True Blood." A waitress at a local restaurant, Merlotte's, Sookie has the ability to hear people's thoughts (usually negative), which has proven problematic in forming relationships. Falling in love at first sight with Bill Compton, a vampire, Sookie is over the moon when she realizes she cannot hear his thoughts, providing her much needed peace. Sookie does not know why she has this gift, but other characters often ask her "what are you?" leading one to wonder if in fact, Sookie is truly just human. Through Bill, Sookie gets introduced to several vampires who find her ability useful, especially Eric, a very powerful, older vampire who seems to have a lust for her.
