Emmy Nominations 2010: 'Glee' Keeps on Rolling

emmy nominations

Emmy nominations for the 62nd Annual Prime Time Emmy Awards were announced earlier this morningand by the looks of things, this year's presenters at the August 29 ceremony better start warming up their vocal chords, because there's going to be a lot of singing going on.

That's because Fox's pop juggernaut 'Glee' continued its rampage through the cultural landscape by racking up an impressive 19 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy, Lead Actor in a Comedy (Matthew Morrison) and Lead Actress in a Comedy (Lea Michele).

About the only person to have a better day than the cast of 'Glee' was Betty White, who continued her amazing career high with a nod for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series as host of 'Saturday Night Live,' her 20th Emmy nomination.
Of course, 'Glee's' path to victory won't be an easy one, as perennial powerhouses '30 Rock' and 'The Office' both also received nominations in all three categories.

And the drama is hardly limited to comedy: outgoing cult smash 'Lost' landed several nominations, including Outstanding Drama, while HBO's groundbreaking mini-series 'The Pacific' topped all nominees with 24 nods -- yet none in any of the acting categories.

In the major categories, Outstanding Drama looks to be among the most competitive, with 'Lost' going head-to-head with fellow cult hit 'True Blood' in a field that also includes 'Breaking Bad,' 'Dexter,' 'Mad Men' and newcomer 'The Good Wife.'

Meanwhile, Outstanding Comedy is also shaping up to be a dogfight, with '30 Rock' and 'The Office' each earning its fourth consecutive nod. Additional contenders for Outstanding Comedy are 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' with its sixth nod, Showtime's offbeat dramedy 'Nurse Jackie,' breakout newcomer 'Modern Family' and, of course, fan favorite sensation 'Glee.'

In the Lead Actor in a Drama category, perennial favorite Hugh Laurie received another nomination for his eponymous role on 'House,' while Matthew Fox ('Lost') landed his first for the role of doomed would-be savior Jack Shepard; Michael C. Hall ('Dexter'), Kyle Chandler ('Friday Night Lights'), Bryan Cranston ('Breaking Bad') and Jon Hamm ('Mad Men') also received nods.

Lead Actor in a Comedy looks to be a wide open field, as the nominees include perennial favorites Alec Baldwin ('30 Rock') and Steve Carell ('The Office') as well as Jim Parsons ('The Big Bang Theory'), Larry David ('Curb Your Enthusiasm'), Matt Morrison ('Glee') and Tony Shalhoub (the late, lamented 'Monk').

Lead Actress in a Drama is headed by Mariska Hargitay ('Law & Order: SVU') and Glenn Close ('Damages'), with Kyra Sedgwick ('The Closer'), Julianna Margulies ('The Good Wife'), Connie Britton ('Friday Night Lights') and January Jones ('Mad Men') also receiving nominations.

Meanwhile in the Lead Actress in a Comedy category, Lea Michele ('Glee'), Julia Louis-Dreyfus ('The New Adventures of Old Christine') and Tina Fey ('30 Rock') all received nods, as did Edie Falco ('Nurse Jackie'), Toni Collette ('The United States of Tara') and Amy Poehler ('Parks and Recreation').
